 New CHAMPS coaches can get off to a good start by obtaining important information to aid them in running a successful program. 
The one-time CHAMPS application covering fall, winter and spring seasons for the 2011-12 school year is now closed.
 See the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s “Health Bulletin” #85 on how much physical activity is necessary to stay fit, and great free and low-cost City activities to help you meet your goals.  The flag rugby program at 10X279 was featured in the local newspaper, the Bronx News Network. The article showcases the exceptional program that Coach Mike Rosario has grown over the last 4 years.  The Office of School Wellness Programs wanted to congratulate those teams that advanced to the CHAMPS Middle School Basketball League Playoffs. Each and every CHAMPS season is the result of the hard work of many dedicated teacher-coaches. This season, CHAMPS recognizes the excellent work of teacher-coach Barbara Palmer-Greene, from M.S. 302, in the Bronx.  The sport of volleyball is gaining momentum among the city’s middle schools. Over 500 enthusiastic young student-athletes from 47 CHAMPS volleyball programs throughout the city displayed the skills learned during the winter season at five Saturday showcases 
In December 2010, the Office of School Wellness Programs lost a key member of the CHAMPS team. Frank Garcia, Jr. died following complications after elective surgery.
 Over 300 schools with middle grades offered CHAMPS activities in the 2010-11 fall season, giving thousands of students the opportunity to access fitness and sports activities before and after school.
