Periodic Assessments

Periodic Assessments are subject-matter assessments that students take periodically throughout the school year. These assessments measure what students know and where they need extra help. Schools choose Periodic Assessments that are most relevant for their students’ learning needs. They are given in a timely way so teachers can make instructional changes to meet each student’s individual needs. In addition to helping teachers, Periodic Assessments also help parents keep track of their children’s progress.

Schools must choose five assessments for grades 3-8 and four in high school to be administered throughout the school year in ELA and mathematics. Click here for a list of Periodic Assessments that will be available to schools.

We encourage schools to provide you with reports showing your child’s Periodic Assessment results and progress. If you want to know how your child is doing, please ask his or her teachers or principal. In addition, many students will be given a username and password for particular periodic assessment Web sites. Parents may use this information to look at the reports and support their child’s learning.
