Full and Part-Time GED

The General Educational Development (GED) Exam is an option for a student who does not have enough time to earn the credits required for a high school diploma before the end of the school year in which he/she turns 21 years old. 

A variety of different programs are available in New York City for students who wish to prepare for the GED exam:

Access GED: Full-Day GED with Learning To Work
A ccess is a full-day educational program for students who wish to pursue Learning to Work o ptions such as paid internships and career exploration while they acquire the academic skills to pass the GED Exam and enroll in college.  A community-based organization partner, located on site, works with all students to set and achieve individual academic, workplace, and personal goals.

GED Plus: Full-Day GED Programs
GED Plus provides full-day GED preparation programs in over 60 locations city-wide. GED Plus offers diverse options for students to learn career and technical skills while preparing to pass the GED. All of the GED Plus sites offer academic and social supports to help students earn their GED and prepare for college and career. There is no minimum literacy requirement for GED Plus. GED Plus is organized into hubs and satellites. Each borough has one hub location and multiple satellite locations.

LTW/GED GED with Learning to Work Afternoon/ Evening classes
Learning to Work GED is a part-time program that combines academic instruction provided by the Department of Education with job readiness, career and college exploration activities, paid internships, and support services provided by a community-based organization.

How to Enroll in a GED Preparation Program 
GED preparation programs accept students who are 18-20 years old.  To enroll, select the GED program(s) in which you have interest and speak with your school counselor, visit a Referral Center for High School Alternatives, and/or contact the GED program directly to schedule an intake interview.
