Under § 2857, Article 56 of the Charter School Act of 1998, the charter entity must provide notification at each significant stage of the chartering process. Prior to the issuance or renewal of a charter, The New York City Department of Education will hold a public hearing to solicit comments from the community in connection with the proposed charter application or renewal application.
