The Queens Transition Center (QTC) is a secondary school serving approximately 450 students in Special Education. QTC has five educational campuses. The academic program at QTC is a comprehensive one, providing students with classroom, shop, and community based learning experiences. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed upon the development of the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes necessary for future success in the adult world - at home, in the work place, and in the community.
Students in Standardized Assessment have the opportunity to participate in a full range of academic classes and are eligible to earn High School credits towards a diploma. Academic intervention services are incorporated into the program for all students to meet IEP goals and objectives. Students in the Alternate Assessment program participate in classes focusing on functional academic skills, communication, and daily living skills. Through the use of interactive online websites, social media outlets, virtual learning academies and assistive technology devices there is greater access for all students to enhanced education.
