Social Services at BCHS

Information to assist in student learning, including curriculum and instruction, student assessments, and homework aids

AIDS/HIV Testing – Provided by the Ryan-Nena Community Health Center, once a month students can opt to test for STD’s.

Free Health Care Insurance RegistrationRidgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council provides in-house screening for interested students and enrollment services for Family and Child Health Plus for those who qualify.

Health Resource Room – Once of week, the New York City Department of Health are available in our building to provide information on young adult health concerns and the importance of routine testing and physicals.

HRA/Food Stamp Screening – Screening for these services are done in-house by the Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council. Once approved, interested students are referred for assistance.

Mental Health – Providing in-house mental health services to those students in need by licensed and trained professionals from the Park Slope Mental Health Center.

Parenting and Nutrition Classes – In collaboration with Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension, the 8-week series of workshops provide valuable real life skills for our pregnant and parenting students.

Peer Mediation – For eight weeks, selected students go through this rigorous program on conflict resolution provided by the New York Commission on Human Rights.

Woman’s Group – Facilitated by our own staff and teachers, and open to all our female students, this group is designed to serve as a safe haven for our young women to come together for empowerment and support.

*Additional services are provided through referrals by our Social Work Department to other community resources.
