Our Mission

P.S. 56Q is a school of rich cultural diversity. To succeed, we build on the active involvement of students, parents and staff founded on respect and responsibility. The art of learning is exciting, engaging and inspiring. P.S. 56Q is focused on teaching, learning, and achieving excellence where each new day is an opportunity for children and adults to know more, do more, and be more than they were the day before. Learning is a participatory process that involves all stakeholders.

Special Programs

The school's special academic programs included an Astre Program for academically gifted children on all grade levels, Project Liberty to promote student resilience and academic success, an AIS Program to support grade level standards in all grades and subject areas, and FEMA to enhance exploration in mathematics.

Extracurricular Activities

Glee Club, Math League (grades 3,4,5), Internet Collaborative Math Team, Talent Show, Spelling Bee, Storytelling Contest, The Stock Market Game, and Math Fairs.

Our Community

We have partnerships with City Parks Foundation, Carnegie Hall, Joyce Theater, Metropolitan Museum, and Museum of Modern Art. The SUNY College of Optometry provided free perceptual screening to children. We donated back to the community through the Penny Harvest Program.
