Welcome to the SocialStudies Department for The High School for Arts and Business
The High School for Arts and Business has a both a highachieving and supportive Social Studies Department. For the past four years theSocial Studies department has been among the best achieving department in thecity. According to progress report data students achieved in the 100 %tile forachievement citywide. The courses that are offered
have been developed to meet the demands and needs of ourstudents. We offer two years ofGlobal History and Geography on the regents level, including both bilingualstudents and students with special needs. We offer Advanced Placement in WorldHistory for students looking to challenge themselves on a college level. Thereis also one year of United States History and Government on a regent’s level,including both bilingual students and students with special needs. There isalso the Advanced Placement in American History for students looking to eithercontinue challenging themselves with college level coursework or students that wishto move from regents classes to Advanced Placement. The final year of SocialStudies offers Participation in Government and Principals of Economics.Students also have the option of taking the Advanced Placement in Economics fortheir senior year which is the ultimate challenge for students before going tocollege. Our effectiveness in meeting the needs of our students and our highstandard for student achievement has made the Social Studies Department among thebest departments in the city. All of our courses meet the current statestandards for Social Studies.
