Dean's Office

The Dean's Office at QTC follows the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) Initiative which is grounded in the concept that, through the use of positive teaching and reinforcement strategies by ALL school staff, it is possible to reduce the use of reactive discipline such as removal from class, being sent to the Dean's office, suspensions, etc.  Our PBIS plan, S.M.A.R.T. presents school-wide expectations that guide school behaviors such as motivation, accountability, respect, and total safety in the areas of the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, auditorium, and on field trips.
Successful implementation of S.M.A.R.T. requires the use of a data system, SWIS (School-Wide Information System).  The data provides information about not only the student involved, but on the locations where problems occur, the problem behaviors most often cited, possible motivations, and what the administrative decision was.  This provides the opportunity for school staff to look for a pattern of behavior problems over a period of time and to develop interventions and determine if they are successful through the use of this data.
QTC students are rewarded for making positive choices.  During a recent S.M.A.R.T. Level party, one student exclaimed, "I've never had anything nice happen to me before!  I'm so excited!"
Prior to the implementation of PBIS, our teachers and administration were frustrated with the high discipline referral rate and many safety issues.  In the past two years of implementation, we have seen a drop in office referrals and significant reduction in out of school suspensions.  Our data is proof that our hard work and attention to detail is paying off.
