    No student will be allowed entry if they arrive by themselves.

     

     Manhattan Village Academy is a rigorous and screened school.  Information about requirements for Admissions will be given at the Open Houses (listed above), and the City-Wide and Borough of Manhattan High School Fairs. Continue to check the Admissions link of the MVA website for updates and/or changes.

     Note:  As written under the Selection Criteria in the Directory, the "Demonstrated interest: school visit" refers to our Open Houses. Preference is given to students who attend the Open Houses.

    Even if students do not attend Open Houses, they are encouraged to still apply to Manhattan Village Academy, and, their applications will also be reviewed.

    Selection Criteria

    Consult the High School Directory and be advised of the following:

    Manhattan Village Academy, a screened high school, will examine the following criteria from all applicants:

     

    ·        Excellent Junior High School attendance and promptness

     

    ·        Open House Attendance (strong consideration granted to those who attended)

     

    ·        Junior High School Grades:  English (80-100), Math (80-100), Science (80-100), Social Studies (80-100)

     

    ·        Standardized Test Scores:  Math Levels:  2-4, English Language Arts Levels:  2-4

    As per the D.O.E.’s policy of keeping consistent with our Directory Page, no materials have to be brought in or mailed to our school. Please do not send in a portfolio of work and do not worry about putting together any materials.

    ·          Advanced Regents Diploma

    ·          Advanced Placement Courses




  • SCHOOL-BASED POLICY OF MANHATTAN VILLAGE ACADEMY FOR USE OF CELL PHONES,
    COMPUTING DEVICES, AND PORTABLE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY

     

    Students ARE NOT ALLOWED to bring iPods, iPads, laptops, video games or other electronics to school without the consent of the Principal, or an Assistant Principal.  The school is not responsible if they are lost or damaged. Cellphone use is FORBIDDEN before, during, or after school including Saturday Academy and after school activities anywhere in the building. Cellphones must be put away upon entering the building. They will be confiscated by Staff. Phones for parental contact are available in the Main Office.

     

    The use of cell phones, computing devices and portable music and entertainment systems at school is subject to the rules below.

    1.            Computing devices CANNOT be turned on or used during the administration of any school quiz, test or examination, except where such use has been explicitly authorized by the school or is contained in an Individualized Education Program or Section 504 Accommodation Plan.

    2.            Cellphones, computing devices, and portable music and entertainment systems CANNOT be turned on or used during school fire drills or other emergency preparedness exercises.

    3.            Cellphones, computing devices, and portable music and entertainment systems have to be placed in the lockers.

    4.            Cellphones, computing devices and portable music and entertainment systems CANNOT be used anywhere in the building.

    5.            Students who use cell phones, computing devices, and/or portable music and entertainment systems in violation of any provision of the DOE’s Discipline Code, the school’s policy, Chancellor’s regulation A-413, and/or the DOE’s Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (“IAUSP”) will be subject to discipline in accordance with the guidance interventions and disciplinary responses set forth in the Discipline Code.

     

    CELLPHONES

     

    During the school day:

                  Cellphones CANNOT be turned on or used while on school property.

                  Cellphones CANNOT be turned on or used during instructional time, except for instructional and educational purposes with the explicit approval of the teacher.

    During after-school, school-sponsored programs or activities:

    ·               Cell phones CANNOT be turned on or used during school-sponsored programs or activities anywhere in the building.

     

    COMPUTING DEVICES

    ·           Computing systems CANNOT be turned on or used during instructional time, except for instructional and educational purposes with the explicit approval of the teacher.

     

    During after-school, school-sponsored programs or activities

    ·         Computing devices may be used ONLY during lunch time, after-school, school-sponsored programs or activities under the supervision of a teacher.

     

    PORTABLE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT

    During the school day:

           Portable music devices and entertainment systems can be used ONLY in the CAFETERIA during lunch time.

           Portable music devices and entertainment systems CANNOT be turned on or used during instructional time, except for instructional and educational purposes with the explicit approval of the teacher.

     

    During after-school, school-sponsored activities:

    ·        Portable music devices and entertainment systems may not be used during after-school and school-sponsored activities.

    CONFISCATION AND RETURN OF ELECTRONIC ITEMS

     

           FIRST TIME INFRACTION-CONFISCATION OF ITEM AND RETURN AT THE END OF SCHOOL DAY
