Our Philosophy

Believing in the full- service community school model,”  we have developed an extensive network of collaborators enabling us to provide far-reaching services to our children and families:  Ryan-Nena Health Center (on-site medical clinic/served by nurse practitioner); St. Vincent’s Hospital (on-site mental health screening and individual, small group, and family counseling provided by four  Clinical Social Workers); Counseling In Schools, Inc. (on-site and off-site individual, small group and family counseling); NYC Department of Health (on-site dental screenings);  Borough of Manhattan Community College (on-site adult ESL program); Third Street Music School (articulated K-8 music program culminating with specialization in violin, chorus or percussion); LEAP (arts-infused ELA instruction); Arts Connection (arts-infused ESL  instruction); Bard High School Early College (Early College Saturday Academy “high school prep” program for Levels 3 and 4 students in Grades 5-8); NYU America Reads (classroom tutors).   We have also developed an ongoing partnership with NY Cares and connections with JP Morgan Chase Bank, Time Warner and SS&K.

Believing in a strength-based and multiple-intelligences approach, we implement Renzulli’s Schoolwide Enrichment Model (National Research Center for Gifted & Talented at UConn), and have been designated by the NYCDOE as an SEM training site for NYC educators (teachers, principals, superintendents).   We have been recognized by Chancellor Klein in his Principal’s Weekly (October ’07) as a “high needs” school that has not only succeeded in increasing academic achievement, but has also developed exemplary technology and arts programs.
