Overview

Our Mission

At Public School 188 our mission is to create a collaborative school community with staff and parents actively involved in the learning process and dynamically engaged in decision making. Our varied energies are dedicated and focused on educating the whole child. By providing standards-driven instruction, a nurturing environment and developing social skills, we will create a community of lifelong learners.


Special Programs

Peer Tutoring, Suzuki Violin and Cello, Project Arts, Project Literacy, Hands-on Science, Desktop Publishing and Telecommunications.


Extracurricular Activities

After school programs funded by parents includes sports, computers, dance, architecture, chess, TADA dramatic arts, and early childhood literacy.

After                School             Center

The PTA operates a self-sustaining after-school program. There are fall and spring semesters. The children select from various recreational activities. Session days may vary. The program runs from 3:20 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. After-school center is alive with fun and friendship. The program will run for 15 sessions.

Our Community

We had partnerships with the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and support from the N.Y.C. School Volunteers program.

Parent/School Support
-       PTA meetings, classroom volunteers, grant writing, assistance with the Suzuki violin and cello programs, and participation in the School Leadership Team. We offer parenting skills workshops, and educational issues are reviewed at frequent PTA meetings in a hands-on/discussion approach.

Professional Development
- Teachers College Reading / Writing Project, Math Workshops.
