Some Words about Science...

Science generates lots of excitement! With the sixth graders  learning about energy and simple machines, the fourth graders exploring plants and animals and our third graders diving into matter, properties and scientific tools things are always moving and shake'n!
One exciting aspect of our Science Lab is the “Weather Station” that is connected to weather equipment on the roof of P.S. 139. It relays the current weather conditions down to the Science Lab, and so we always know the temperature, wind speed and direction, humidity and rainfall totals. The sixth grade monitors read the weather station every morning, and announce the current conditions to the whole school during morning announcements. It's like have our very own News team right here in the building!
Each year our students also prepare for our Annual Science Fair which is held during the month of March.  Students receive their Science Fair packets in late December, which contains the information they will need to complete their projects.  Every student gets a chance to present his or her project during their weekly science class.  Outstanding projects are then shared in the gymnasium during a week long Science Fair. We always look forward to the beautiful and exciting projects that our third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students create!
At PS139 Science and Technology are very closely connected.  Many technology projects and research stem from the science curricuulm.
