|  This section has been assembled to inform NYC public school parents about the guidelines pertaining to the exclusion of students from Prom or Graduation Ceremonies. In the following document, parents will find out under what circumstances students will not be allowed to attend Prom or Graduation, the responsibilities of both the students and the school authorities at such ceremonies and events, what role the parents themselves have to play in ensuring safe and successful conduction of these ceremonies, and so on. 
Through the Ready New York for Kids pilot program, the Office for Family Engagement and Advocacy (OFEA) of the Department of Education and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are teaming up to train children of all ages in 46 public schools throughout Fort Greene, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Brooklyn Heights will learn the key steps in preparing for all kinds of emergencies including natural disasters.

It provides an opportunity for parents to formalize their commitment to working with their child's school through a written agreement they can complete and take to their parent leader, school secretary, teacher, or principal. The Pledge also provides a survey of parent volunteer interests. The survey identifies 37 areas in which parents can volunteer in school, outside the classroom and at home. - ">
 ABC News reports on an informative new resource, Great Expectations, made available to our NYC public school parents. The booklet has been designed to help parents track their children's progress in school and become an active partner with the Department of Education in their children's education.  The Korea Times interviewed Chancellor Joel I. Klein on August 16 at the NYC Back to School Kick-Off in Central Park. During the interview, the Chancellor expressed his concern over the low participation rate of Asian parents, including Korean parents, at educational events and programs across the city. He spoke of the need for these parents who are motivating and supporting their high-achieving children at home to channel their enthusiasm and dedication into school and DOE sponsored events 
The Korea Times had an exclusive with Chief Family Engagement Officer Martine Guerrier on August 14, 2008, during which Ms. Guerrier discusses the importance of parent involvement in the NYC public schools and the various resources available through her office (OFEA) to help immigrant and non-English speaking parents and guardians play active roles in their children’s education.
