After School Program

The Twenty-first Century Learning Center grant sponsored by our local CBO, Community association of Progressive Dominicans, provides our students with extra assistance in an after-school literacy, math and art program. The program is offered to students from Monday to Thursday, from 3:30pm to 6:00 pm. Teachers work with students in a small group setting, using an interactive model. They share literacy strategies, apply the skills to real text, respond to focused writing tasks and listen to stories for specific skill purposes. All participating students in grades 1st - 8th, including English Language Learners and special education students are grouped according to assessed needs for additional instruction and to improve literacy skills.  Instruction focuses on content areas, specifically science, social studies and mathematics, using CALLA (Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach).
