Principal's Message

Dear Families,

I’m writing to let you know about the new Breakfast in the Classroom program in our school.

Beginning on January 11, 2016 your child can take part in an innovative program called “Breakfast in the Classroom.” Just as the name implies, a nutritious breakfast will be served to each student, right in the classroom, every school day. Students will have an opportunity during the first 15 minutes of class to eat breakfast with their classmates and get the fuel they need to be ready to learn. Breakfast is still free. There will be no breakfast service from the cafeteria before school.

Following the success of Breakfast in the Classroom in over 300 of our schools and in cities around the country, the City and the Department of Education have directed that all buildings housing only elementary schools receive Breakfast in the Classroom.

Breakfast in the Classroom has many advantages.  First, it is convenient.  Mornings can be hectic. School breakfast takes one thing off of the morning “to do” list.  Second, it is a great value.  Every meal is free, healthy and delicious.  Third, it enhances the classroom experience.  Once in the classroom, each student picks a breakfast and eats at his or her desk while the teacher takes morning attendance, teaches a short lesson, or reads announcements.  Serving Breakfast in the Classroom ensures that all of our students are well nourished so that they can be ready to learn.

Breakfast in the Classroom will be a great start to your child’s day and the way the program works is simple.  Each day, breakfasts are packaged in insulated bags and brought by School Food staff or student monitors to the classrooms. Once in the classroom, each student picks a breakfast and eats at his or her desk while the teacher takes morning attendance, teaches a short lesson, or reads announcements.  (Students who do not want a breakfast do not need to take one.)  After eating, trash is put into an insulated bag that will be lined with a trash bag. The insulated bags are then returned to the kitchen and no food is left inside the classroom.

Please share this exciting news with your child and be ready on January 11, 2016 for the start of this new program!

Sincerely,

Janette Caban

Dear Parents /Guardians,

I want to take this opportunity to welcome you and your family of what promises to be a wonderful school year!

I look forward to meeting the new members of our community and connecting with those who are returning. I encourage families to get to know each other so that we can build new friendships and support each other as the need arises.

We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience

2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers

3) Reads daily to develop a love of reading and to improve literacy skills

4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life

Please consider joining our School Leadership Team, Parent -Teacher Association and Parents as Learning Partners; our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and its operations. Your child’s teacher will be available on Tuesdays from 3:00-3:30p.m.  You may contact and meet with your child’s teacher on Tuesdays.  In addition, we will be conducting parent workshops on a monthly basis with topics of your interest.

Please stay connected to the school through our PS94 website: http://schools.nyc.gov/SchoolPortals/15/K094

Finally, School doors open at 7:50 a.m. Breakfast is at 7:15a.m. Our school hours are 8:00-2:20p.m. Please remember that you set your child up for success by getting him/her to school on time and ready to learn. The hours that your children are with us each day are extremely important.

Let us all commit to having a wonderful school year, setting everyone, both students and teachers up for success. Thank you for your commitment to your child's education and I look forward to seeing you in the very near future.

Sincerely,
