Mrs. Rahr, I would like to thank you for all you have done for me when I was in your ESL class in Halsey Junior High School. You were not only a teacher that taught me how to read and write properly but you also were my mentor, a person to whom I could turn to. My family and I had just immigrated to the United States from Russia and I had a hard time assimilating to a new country, new school, new people. You were there for me, you were there for me when I felt alone.
I admired you so, because there you were a very petite woman but with such a powerful presence. You made sure that kids were all there, not just in body.
You also stood out in my eyes because even after I graduated from Halsey to Forest Hills High School, you still found time to respond to my letters in spite of your hectic life.
I thank you, Mrs. Rahr, for being there for me and caring!
