P.S. 236's New 'Schoolyards to Playgrounds'

Mayor Bloomberg's PLaNYC "Schoolyards to Playgrounds"  Project  began reconstructing our  large yard during the Spring season of 2009.  Based on a design inspired by our own students,  City Engineers added extra drains, storm sewer pipes, and they even removed an old  buried building foundation so that the new layout could be flat for the baseball field, basket ball courts and other activities. The new pavement will be very colorful, just like other Parks and  Playgrounds  that we've all seen in New York City. New trees , benches, and even bleachers to watch sporting events will be arriving shortly along with  chess or checker tables that will  finish off the new playground. It will be opened  everyday in the summer and weekends for the community , but PS 236 will have exclusive use during school hours and for any after hours programs we have.

A Dyna  Hoe Operator has just removed pieces of an old building foundation and  is about to break them up into small pieces with a giant jack hammer attachment so that they can be loaded into dump trucks and carted away.
