Welcome to the 2009-2010 School Year

Dear MAVAD Families,

As you all know, the beginning of the school year is right around the corner.  We are looking forward to your return on the first day of school, Wednesday, September 9 at 8:10 am.  You are to report to the 3^rd floor gym where you will pick up your program card and begin your academic program.  Wednesday, September 9 is an instructional school day.  We expect you to arrive on time, and prepared for instruction with at least a notebook and a pen. 

Effective in September, 2009 the Monroe Academy for Visual Arts & Design has adopted a stricter uniform/ dress code policy.  By mid-September all students will be required to wear a uniform shirt and the remainder of the outfits appropriate to the Monroe Academy for Visual Art & Design’s dress code.  Shirts and gym uniforms will be available for sale the first two weeks of school. 

Be advised that the New York City Department of Education has a clear policy prohibiting cellular phones, head-gear (hats, do-rags etc.), CD Players, IPods, MP3 Players, DVD Players, GameBoys, other game systems, and all similar types of devices.  At the Monroe Academy for Visual Arts there is a clear expectation that none of these items will be brought to school.  If any of these items are brought to school they will be confiscated.
