While not exhaustive, posted below are examples of competitive funding streams that support many of our school and CBO partnerships.

Out of School Time
 The Out-of-School Time (OST) initiative is administered by NYC's Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).  OST is the largest municipally funded after school initiative in the nation, providing a mix of academic, recreational and cultural activities for young people after school, during holidays and in the summer in more than 400 New York City schools. Programs are also offered at community centers, settlement houses, religious centers, libraries and Parks Department facilities. Please contact DYCD for more information.

Beacon Programs 
NYC's Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) administers Beacon programs that provide youth with appropriately structured youth development activities in the hours following the school day. Located in 80 schools across the City, the Beacon programs establish opportunities for empowerment and skill building, development of sound character and positive social norms, and integration of family, school and community supports. Principals and other school personnel work closely with the community-based organizations that manage the individual Beacons to provide a variety of services to New York City school children including, sports and recreation, educational enrichment, academic support and family involvement activities. Service Learning / Teen ACTION
NYC's Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) administers Teen ACTION programs that allow youth between the ages of 13 and 21 to design and implement a meaningful service project that meets a need in their community. Please contact DYCD for more information.

Attendance Improvement / Dropout Prevention 
The Department of Education contracts with the United Way of NYC to manage our Attendance Improvement / Dropout Prevention programs. AIDP programs, otherwise known as CAPS (Community Achievement Project in Schools) provide opportunities for students at-risk of dropping out of school to improve their attendance and academic performance. The program provides students in eligible schools with intensive support services in attendance outreach and counseling in order to improve student attendance and academic achievement.

21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC)
The 21st CCLC program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.

Extended School Day / Violence Prevention
The primary purpose for Extended School Day / Violence Prevention (ESDVP) funds is to support the efforts of school districts with high needs and to ultimately bring all students to higher learning standards. The grantees consist of community school districts, alternative schools and community based organizations. 

For additional information on 21st CCLC and ESDVP, please contact the DOE Grant Managers who work in the Office of Youth Development at the Integrated Service Centers.  Grant Managers are responsible for overeeing DOE's district 21st CCLC and ESDVP grants.

Advantage After School

Advantage After School Programs are administered by the Office of Children and Family Services. Programs are operated by a community-based organization in partnership with a school. The program is designed to support students and improve the social, emotional and academic competencies of school-age children. 

Learning to Work
Learning to Work (LTW) is an in-depth job readiness and career exploration program designed to enhance the academic component of select Young Adult Borough Centers, transfer high schools, and GED programs. The goal of LTW is to assist students in overcoming obstacles that impede their progress toward a high school diploma - as well as lead them toward rewarding post-secondary employment and educational experiences.
