The current rate of pay for a substitute teacher is $154.97 per day.

Paycheck Distribution
Substitute teachers are paid semi-monthly. Paychecks are sent the employee’s home address. If you have any questions, ask a payroll secretary to check the payroll system to see where your check has been directed. You may also apply for direct deposit.

Smart Cards
Smart Cards are used by substitute teachers and part-time teachers as a way to log attendance and gain access to participating Smart Card-based schools. Click for more information about ID Cards and Smart Cards.

Certification
Substitute teachers who do not have certification and are not preparing to become certified are limited to a maximum of 40 working days per year.

Pay Rate
The current rate of pay for a substitute paraprofessional is $123.44 per day. This covers a work day of six hours and 50 minutes.

Paycheck Distribution
Substitute paraprofessionals are paid on the first and 16th day of every month. Paychecks are delivered to the last school worked or the school where the majority number of days were worked. If you have any questions, ask a payroll secretary to check the payroll system to see where your check has been directed. You may also apply for direct deposit.

Becoming a Full-Time Paraprofessional (Teaching Assistant)
To qualify for full-time employment as an educational paraprofessional (teaching assistant), you must begin as a substitute special education paraprofessional and seek certification as a teaching assistant.
Substitute paraprofessionals will be evaluated for placement into full-time positions based on their performance and willingness to accept daily assignments. You must serve 25 days as a substitute paraprofessional to be eligible for full-time employment.
