Time-Sensitive Information for Employees

  • HR Connect’s Health Benefits Administration, in conjunction with the New York City Office of Labor Relations (OLR), is pleased to announce that the 2009 Health Benefits Transfer Period will begin on November 4, 2009 and will continue through November 30, 2009.  Any DOE employee who is currently eligible for City health benefits coverage is eligible to participate in this event.  For more information, contact HR Connect at (718) 935-4000.

  • Teaching Opportunities in New Schools: Positions are now available in brand new small schools.

  • The Open Market Hiring System is now closed. The Excessed Staff Selection System is currently available for excessed staff in all eligible titles. The Open market Hiring System will reopen in April 2010.

  • The Long Beach Decision is an outcome of a New York State Court of Appeals decision based on a grievance filed by Civil Service Employees Association on behalf of employees in Long Beach, Long Island. A key provision of the decision required Long Beach (and other municipalities throughout the state of New York) to comply with applicable civil service law that limits the amount of time an individual may serve in what is known as a "provisional" capacity in a competitive class title. To learn more, read Frequently Asked Questions about the Long Beach Decision.

  • As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), employees who are "involuntarily terminated" from employment between September 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009, and who fall within certain income limits, may be eligible for COBRA premium subsidies and/or new opportunities for COBRA enrollment.  To apply for these new benefits under COBRA, former employees must obtain eligibility verification through HR Connect's Health Benefits Administration.  For more information on the new COBRA entitlements and how to apply for a subsidy, call HR Connect at (718) 935-4000.
