Office of Curriculum, Standards, and Academic Engagement

Overview

The Office of Curriculum, Standards, and Academic Engagement supports teachers citywide through curricular and instructional initiatives. By collecting and sharing educational research and best practices, OCSAE provides vital tools for the teaching and learning that take place in classrooms throughout the city every day.  The resources provided by OCSAE make it easier for New York City teachers to approach their work in an innovative manner and to draw from the experiences of many other educators both inside and outside of the New York City schools. The individual departments that are part of this office collaborate across content areas to provide support for school personnel in their efforts to provide their students a full and well-rounded education.

The NYCDOE Campaign for Middle School Success is a strategic approach to improve student achievement in our middle schools that leverages the Children First principles of leadership, empowerment, and accountability. Given the widespread nature of the challenge in middle schools, a comprehensive set of strategic initiatives that addresses academic rigor, adolescent development, high quality teachers and school leaders, parent and community engagement, and school organization, is necessary.
