OPT will begin to ship spring semester MetroCards to schools in January based on MetroCard data found in ATS on December 16. Cards currently in use are valid until January 31 and spring semester cards become effective on February 1.
Each package of MetroCards contains instructions and guidelines. Please review these instructions carefully with the appropriate members of your staff before distributing MetroCards. In particular, please note that you should record the serial number of the MetroCard you issue to each student and enter the serial number on individual student records in ATS.
Please remember that a student’s eligibility is the only factor that determines which kind of MetroCard he or she receives. Eligibility is based on the student’s grade and the walking distance from the student’s home to school. Family income is not part of the eligibility criteria.
