"I am thrilled that Principal Christina Fuentes has been named a recipient of the 2010 Sloan Public Service Awards. For 20 years, Christina has worked brilliantly to educate and nurture low-income, mostly Hispanic students in Brooklyn. At PS 24 in Sunset Park, where she arrived in 1998 and has served as principal since 2005, Christina pioneered a Dual-Language curriculum that is now a model for schools across the nation. PS 24 is one of the highest-achieving schools in New York City, and I am proud that the Fund for the City of New York has granted Principal Christina Fuentes the recognition she deserves."
