How should you be interacting with outside providers?
Providers have been instructed to contact you if they are interested in conducting their programs in your school sites. Please be as cooperative as possible. We want to make SES as convenient as possible as well as offer parents and students a diversity of program options. If a provider is interested in conducting a program at your school, click here to read the guidelines on how to select providers in your building.
Can providers hire DOE staff?
Although it is a violation of the Conflict of Interest law for DoE employees to work for a contracted vendor without a waiver, a blanket request has been granted by the Conflict of Interest Board that allows DoE teachers to work as instructors and Lead Teachers only in provider programs. A condition of the waiver prohibits these teachers from actively recruiting for the provider that has hired them.
What is the principal’s role in the program selection process?
Title I schools in need of improvement required to offer SES will need to distribute SES materials to parents during the first week of school. At the beginning of the school year, your school will be supplied with sufficient quantities of SES materials that will include a notification letter from the Chancellor to the parents informing them of their option to enroll their children in SES, a provider directory, with a timeline and other pertinent information, and a selection form. These materials will arrive in boxes clearly labeled [SES materials – Time sensitive]. All of the information has been conveniently packaged into an envelope for easy distribution. Your school needs only to print out ATS labels for the eligible students and affix to the selection form. Click here for instructions on generating the ATS labels.
Please encourage the parents of children eligible for SES programs to complete the program selection process so that their children can attend the SES program of their own choice. By law, you may NOT tell or suggest to parents which provider to select. The choice is up to them. However, your teachers may provide information about the academic needs of students, and you may answer questions posed to you by parents. You should designate an SES Liaison responsible for assisting with implementing the requirements of SES. Your school liaison will receive training and will be provided with information to assist parents. In addition, school guidance counselors should be familiar with the selection process and be available to assist parents as well. Please share information with them as well as other staff that interacts with parents.
