SPECIAL FEATURES OF WASHINGTON IRVING HIGH SCHOOL

  • Art Gallery – Washington Irving has a professionally designed art gallery (Room 119) thanks to the support of alumna Evelyn Nef. The gallery is used for exhibitions of community, alumni, faculty and student art.
  • Conference Rooms – Since we have a large number of business partners and visitors to the building, conference space is very important. Rooms 211 and 201 are used as conference rooms and additional space is being planned. See the principal’s secretary in Room 210 if you wish to reserve a conference room.
  • Technology Task Force – Technology has a rapidly increasing and important role at WIHS and has been supported by our business partnerships. A technology task force has been established which includes both teachers and business partners. A one million dollar, five year technology plan is currently in operation. Each house has acquired specific computer rooms and labs donated by our business partners. Most of these are connected to the Internet and have state of the art operation systems.
  • The Union Square Partnership (USP) - Washington Irving High School has one of the largest school/business partnerships in the nation. The USP provides a myriad of services to our students, their families, and the WIHS staff and administration. Our SLCs are developing Advisory Committees with the assistance and support of the USP to better expose our students to the world awaiting them beyond high school. To find out more about the USP, speak to your House Assistant Principal or visit the Union Square Partnership Office at WIHS, room 115.
  • Mediation Room – 4th Floor, Room 419.
  • Library - The school library is located on the first floor on the 16th Street side of the building. There are librarians available for instructional purposes. Appointments can be made with the librarian for class visits to the library. Students and teachers are encouraged to use the library when they are not in class. All ninth graders are scheduled for library orientation in the fall term.

  • Lost and Found - The security office serves as the “Lost and Found” in Room 114. However, staff keys and valuables should be brought to the A.P. Organization, Room 111. In cases of theft, reports should be sent to the A.P. Security, as well as the A.P. Organization.
