THE STOCK MARKET GAME
The Stock Market Game is a simulation game for the United States Stock Market developed to promote a better understanding of the Financial Investment System and how it works. Aimed at high school and college students, this simulation should help students understand:
1. How to trade in the stock market
2. The costs and benefits involved in economic decision-making
3. Buyers and market demand
4. Sellers and market supply
5. Sources and uses of capital
6. Forms of business organizations
7. How our economy is changing
The Stock Market Game is designed to foster an awareness of the world of business and finance. It shows the interlocking relationships that exist at various segments of society - labor, management, technology, government, transportation, raw materials, etc. The Game sharpens study skills by placing students in decision-making roles which require research, judgment, analysis, mathematical ability and interpersonal cooperation.
ThinkQuest NYC
The ThinkQuest NYC Challenge is a contest for students to create educational websites. The TQNYC project-based, collaborative learning experience addresses 21st century learning by providing an opportunity for students to develop higher order thinking skills, problem solving in a real world context, and student as knowledge producer. In addition to developing advanced technology skills, ThinkQuest NYC participants gain content knowledge in specific academic areas, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and a sense of connection with the world beyond their own communities.
Upward Bound
Small group oriented career and college planning activities provides students the opportunity to explore career, majors, colleges, and financial aid. Seniors progress into the college survival group focusing on the freshman year experience. Services include forma workshops for students and parents on the application process and filing for financial aid. Arrangements are made for students to visit schools, attend Open Houses at colleges, and meet with admission staff. College fairs are held as well as careers/college seminars hosted by graduates of the program, representatives from various colleges and the business community. Activities take place on campus at NYU at the program office area or in the NYU Silver Center.

Web Publishing
In this course, students will use Macromedia Dreamweaver to create Web sites. The course will cover 3 main topics:
- Planning - how to organize your content
- Design - how to choose an appropriate navigation scheme and "look"
- Production - how to use Dreamweaver and Fireworks or Photoshop to create and manage your site
Objectives At the end of this course, each student will be able to:
1. Create a clear outline, flowchart, and story board
2. Design an appropriate navigation scheme
3. Use Macromedia Dreamweaver to create and manage a Web site that works well with multiple browsers. Apply design principles to create a legible, attractive, well organized, and user friendly Web site
4. Produce simple Web graphics
5. Publish a site to a Web server

Unity Center For Urban Technology is pleased to announce one of its teams was the first place finisher in the New York City/Westchester High School division of the 9/5-12/15 session. All members of the team are invited to attend The Stock Market Game Program Awards Ceremony held in late May/early June. The ceremony will recognize the top teams of both the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 Stock Market Game programs.
Business Law
"Legal Terminology, Documents, Ethics, and the Litigation Process": This first session focuses on the history of American jurisprudence, the theory of law, the legal process, and the nature of litigation. Discussion will cover pre-trial, trial and post-trial procedures as well as an in depth coverage of legal ethics. At the end of the first session of class, students will know how to prepare a Complaint/Petition, Answer, Third Party Complaint/Petition, and Motion for Summary Judgment.
"Introduction to the Evidentiary Predicate": This session covers the rules of evidence and civil procedure. Basic interviewing and investigation techniques and the development and use of demonstrative evidence will also be explained. At the end of the second session of class, students will prepare discovery matter such as Interrogatories, Request for Admissions and Request for Production of Documents.
"Introduction to Legal Research": Students will learn research techniques for use in legal memoranda, motions, and briefs. A concise approach to legal research will be developed.
"Legal Research Practice": Legal research skills will be applied this session with emphasis on statutes and case law and learning to use computerized legal research terminals. Numerous research assignments will be given, discussed, and critiqued. The West Key Number System® will be learned thoroughly.
"Legal Writing and Appellate Procedure": This final session will concentrate on the preparation and critique of legal memoranda, including Appellate Briefs. Principles of appellate procedure will also be reviewed. Proper citation format will be covered along with a discussion of job hunting techniques and job leads for those students seeking their first employment as paralegals.

Visions for Tomorrow (www.VisionsforTomorrow.net) brings together leaders in science, technology, art, architecture, education and policy to champion a fresh and hopeful outlook on the future and to advance the idea that individuals can affect significant and positive change. Unity High school students in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to Share their "Visions for Tomorrow" with the world. Students working in teams of 2-4 members and a (teacher) coach will submit a 2-3 minute video project that addresses their vision for improving our future world. The 2-3 minute video will be a short movie, a commercial or a public service announcement for the future.
