    Literacy Program Overview
PS 175 is committed to ensuring that all students are able readers and writers.  Our literacy program is standards-based and aligned with the needs and strengths of each student.  Many formal and informal assessments are administered to ensure that students develop competencies in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Our daily 90 minute literacy block includes explicit instruction on strategies for effective reading and writing through a workshop model.  Students will engage in read-alouds, guided groups, conferring sessions, word study and independent reading.  Our print rich classrooms are equipped with libraries that offer a wealth of books in various genres leveled to accommodate students reading levels. Additonally, learning centers and progress monitoring tools are available.
