School's Regulations

Dear Parents,

Please be aware that certain items are not permitted in any school building.  Possession of any weapon, e.g. knives, box-cutters etc may result in immediate suspension from school and may also result in the arrest of your child.

Cell phones, beepers, walk-man radios, Discmans, IPODS, and electronic games should not be brought to school. Walk-man radios, Dicmans, IPODS, and electronic games that are used or worn in school will be taken away.  A parent will have to come to school to pick up these items.  Cell phones and beepers that are brought to school will be confiscated and turned in to the Office of School Safety in accordance with the Chancellors Regulations.  Markers and spray paint are not permitted.  These items will be confiscated immediately and may be grounds for suspension.

We take great pride in the high standards that we maintain at MS 136; therefore, certain types of clothing are inappropriate in a school setting.  Please note that the following items are not permitted in our school:

Shorts(above the knees), loose hanging pants that are worn without a belt and that fall below the waist, pajama bottoms, culottes, cut-offs, belly-shirts, tank tops, halter tops, see-through blouses, jeans with holes, slits or offensive writing on them, sunglasses, short skirts, bandannas and T-shirts with rude or inappropriate pictures or writing, as well as certain jewelry.

While MS 136 is a safe school, the streets are not always as safe.  Jewelry, expensive coats, sneakers and certain brand name book bags are always targets for muggings on the streets.  We also urge you not to allow your child to bring large amounts of money with them to school.

The establishment and presence of a school-wide atmosphere, which allows for excellence in teaching and learning, is a priority all of us aspire to achieve.  In order to accomplish this goal, parents must understand, the rights and responsibilities their children have at school and the consequences of their actions should they engage in unacceptable conduct.

The entire staff of MS 136 looks forward to working closely with you and your child this school year.

Sincerely,

Eric Sackler, Principal
