Journalism
Students have the opportunity to learn the importance of the communication mediums, such as investigative journalism and broadcasting of the 21st Century. Through our media -based programs, school partnerships and projects, students learn to creatively develop and apply their critical thinking, documentation, communication, presentation, & literacy skills. Which in turn, enables students to apply their knowledge and skills to be active participants in using the print and broadcasting resources to inform our school community about all the the great events, news, activities that are taking place at P.S. 506.
Technology
Students have the opportunity to learn the relevance and the application of computer technology in order to have the necessary communication and publishing skills to be prepared as young adults of the future. The instructional interdisciplinary approach of computer technology in all subjects, affords students many opportunities to utilize the use of technology as a resource for information and communication. The availability of the latest hardware and software supports sutdents' learning as they develop and apply their research, technical, and presentation skills. Students learn the ethical guidelines as they independently develop and publish thematic multimedia presentations

The Paideia Instuctional Philosophy
Our school is implementing the Paideia philosophy that states all children can learn and deserve the same quality of education. Paideia focuses on helping all students acquire, remember, and understand basic ideas, skills, and facts. Teachers lead dialogues for discussion through question and response. Students build logic and reasoning skills while gaining a lasting understanding of the topic.
The Paideia philosophy is a comprehensive approach to education by helping students to learn life skills and become life-long learners.Teachers emphasize intellectual curiosity, promote connections between academic subjects and encourage collaborative research among their students.
Our students need to be prepared to earn a living, to become good citizens and develop a love of life-long learning. The emphasis is on a comprehensive approach to education with specific methods, such as, didactic, coaching and seminar instruction. In addition, assessment of learning outcomes are by the acquisition of facts, development of skills and the enlarged understanding of basic ideas and concepts.
