NYC Behavioral Intervention and Suspension Practices Focused Review

The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) has initiated a NYC Behavioral Intervention and Suspension Practices Focused Review in I.S. 14 during the 2009-2010 school year.  The purpose of the review is to assess the school’s compliance with federal and State laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities in the areas of behavioral supports and suspension practices.

The review will be conducted by VESID's NYC Special Education Quality Assurance office (SEQA) in conjunction with personnel from the New York City Department of Education.  The activities may include but are not limited to: a review of school records of selected students with disabilities, classroom visits and interviews with selected administrators, teachers, providers and students.

A summary of the findings will appear in this web page at the conclusion of the review.  Further information may be obtained by contacting VESID's SEQA office and/or your school.
