Adaptive Physical Education or A.P.E. is a specially designed program of developmental activities, games, and sports suited to the interest, capacities and limitations of students with different conditions who may not safely or successfully engage in unrestricted participation in activities of the regular physical education program.
There is a curriculum designed to meet the needs of these students. In A.P.E. we also train for many Special Olympics events and tournaments. Each year we compete in volleyball, basketball, bowling, golf, soccer and dance competitions.
There are also many organizations that provide opportunities for these children. For instance, we are involved with a non-profit organization called Achilles Kids. During the school year we run a virtual marathon. At the end of the term, this organization gives each child a t-shirt and a pair of sneakers for completing their marathon.
