Kindergarten

K-103
The students in class K-103 have been learning and having fun in kindergarten!  We have been busy learning what school is like and interacting with our new friends.  We are learning how to read and enjoy reading with our classmates.  We also write and draw every day to share what we have learned and what we think.  Center time is when we learn and have fun at the same time!  We are building blocks, completing puzzles, using our imaginations through dramatic play, exploring science and math manipulatives, drawing and coloring, reading and writing, and learning how to play with our friends.

K-102
K-102 has been learning about labeling to help them write stories. They have labeled pictures of things that are the same color or shape. They have used this skill to help them write sentences and stories about pictures they have made after reading a variety of stories. After reading Lunch by Denise Fleming the students generated ideas about foods that they like to eat. They used “Think, Pair, Share” to think about foods they like to eat, then with a partner they shared ideas. They have learned that sharing is not just about letting others use the toys or crayons, but it is also about taking turns and making sure each person has a chance to speak. During the first day of Writer’s Workshop students drew and labeled pictures to fill their plates of all the foods they like to eat. On the second day they picked one food from their plate to write a sentence using some of the high frequency sight words I, like, and to or any other words learned this year. On the last day of Writer’s Workshop for the week, students began to make menus to categorize foods they like to eat by meal, breakfast, lunch, dinner and even dessert. Throughout the week each student had many opportunities to work independently and in a small group with Mr. Koines. Practicing their independence and ability to work by themselves for a few minutes is something Mr. Koines has been having his students work on.

K-104
Students were given manipulatives such as pattern blocks, bears or buttons to make patterns.  Students arranged the manipulatives to form patterns.  Students drew and colored in patterns on sentence strips.  Students also read Ducks on a Bike.  The children wrote about different animals who would ride a bike.

K-106

Class K-106 is immersed in reading.  We read about a variety of topics including our community, families, holidays, transportation, foods, and animals.  We listen to read alouds daily.  We read with partners, read in groups and read independently.  We follow the rules and routines during reading time.  We hold our books correctly and read from left to right.  Most importantly, we have learned to care about our books.  WE LOVE READING!!!
