"Tell me, and I'll forget.
Show me, and I may remember.
Involve me, and I will understand."
As experienced educators, we have seen evidence of the validity of this Chinese Proverb; therefore, the  Science program at P.S. 63Q is committed to teaching children science concepts through a hands-on approach.   We also strive to integrate literacy, mathematics, and art with our science teaching, as it is in the real world, so that we may stimulate as many connections as possible in our students' education.

Our curriculum is based on the New York State Core Curriculum in Science for grades kindergarten through fifth.  Strong emphasis is placed on scientific inquiry and problem solving through experimentation toward the goal of preparing our students to think critically about the world around them, as they develop an appreciation, and a  positive attitude toward science.

There is a New York State Science Assessment for fourth graders that is taken over two sessions.  A Written part assesses knowledge of  science content, and the Performance Assessment gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to read and follow directions in order to conduct measurement tasks and experiments, display data, and draw conclusions about their data.

In 2011, these tests will be administered as follows:
Grade 4 Science Written- Monday, June 6, 2011; Grade 4 Science Performance- Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, 2011.
