Guidance personnel ensure that students and families are aware of the range of programs available, and have the opportunity to explore career options and plan for and make informed choices regarding their post-secondary pathways.

  • ACT - Learn about the ACT Test and additional helpful college planning resources. Students: Can you answer the ACT Question of the Day?
  • Alumni for Public Schools - Encourage your high school graduates to join and stay in touch with NYC Public Schools!
  • ABAFAOILSS- The Association of Black Admission and Finanical Aid Officers of the Ivy League and Sister Schools provides multiple resources and opportunities related to college preparation and admission.

  • CareerExplorer - Multiple resources including career videos, online interest inventory and much more!
  • CareerZone - Grades 6-12- an online career exploration and planning system designed especially for New York State students.   • College.gov - an online resource guide for school counselors to support students' early awareness of and preparation for college.
  • College Access Consortium of New York (CACNY) - a network of CBOs, colleges and schools providing multiple college admission planning resources.

Financial Aid and Scholarship Resources

  •  New! Friday, May 4, 2012-Application Deadline for the Charles Robertson Scholarship Award. Once again, this award (approximately $300) will be presented to one male student and one female student selected among eligible candidates currently attending a public high school in Brooklyn and graduating in June 2012. Access application form here.  

  • New! Friday, March 30, 2012 - Application Deadline for the Morris and Eve Brown Foundation Award. The Foundation once again will be presenting awards of $2,000 each to selected candidates from across the five boroughs. Schools may submit applications for up to two deserving high school seniors who meet eligibility criteria.  View additional information here.

  • New! The College Connections Project at the Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center provides college application fee waivers to low-income adults age 19 and over.  The application fee waivers can be used to pay the application fees to CUNY ($65/$70) and to SUNY Empire State College ($50).  Information is available here or by calling 212-961-5853. 

  • Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. Scholarships - to identify your Member of Congress, click here. Read this flyer for guidelines and see this application. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute also has scholarship programs available.

  • Providing Effective Financial Aid Assistance to Students from Foster Care and Unaccompanied Youth: A Key to Higher Education Access and Success - a manual to assist guidance counselors and anyone who helps youth from foster care and unaccompanied homeless youth to secure the maximum allowable financial aid for postsecondary education or training programs, includes how to respond to new FAFSA questions that will determine federal financial aid status for these students, and a section on sensitive communication

  • The American Association of Blacks in Energy, New York Metropolitan Area Chapter (AABE-NYMAC) provides scholarships and mentors to minority youth pursuing careers in the areas of math, science and technology
