Portfolio and Planning

The Department of Education strives to create a portfolio of schools and programs that meet the needs of the diverse student body in New York City

Each year, the DOE assesses the current portfolio of options available to students and determines Changes in our Schools to better meet student needs.

In order to understand educational needs, the DOE meets with community members to gather input to help inform our planning.  See the Calendar of Public Meetings for upcoming discussions.

Changes to the portfolio of schools and programs may include:

  • The creation of New District Schools and new Charter Schools
  • Closure of low performing schools
  • Grade Reconfigurations
  • Changes to individual schools' enrollment policies
  • Locations of of Pre-Kindergarten and Gifted and Talented classes
  • Locations of District 75 programs, GED Plus programs, and Young Adult Bourough Centers (YABCs)
